Camera vision.

36-year-old Canadian film-maker Rob Spence doesn't seem unusual. You wouldn't realise it at first, but one of his eyes is false. But this is not the most unusual thing about him. Inside this false eye Spence has a wireless video camera. This camera is not connected to his brain and has not improved his eyesight Instead it records everything he sees. The camera runs on a very small battery and it has a transmitter, a device which allows Spence to send an image of what he is seeing at any moment to a computer. Spence damaged his right eye at the age of thirteen while he was playing with his grandfather's gun on a visit to Ireland. After the accident his vision got worse until he became completely blind in that eye.Three years ago. he had an operation to remove this eye and to insert a false one. And it is this false eye that now contains his miniature video camera.

Stephen King’s novels have sold more than 350 million copies and many have been made into films, including The Shining and Pet Cemetery. But his career had a difficult beginning. Having graduated from the University of Maine, King worked as a teacher while also writing his first novel. At one point, he became so frustrated that he threw the manuscript in the bin. His wife, Tabithj found it, read it and convinced her husband that it was worth finishing. Eventually, he sent the completed work to a publisher an< they agreed to publish it. The novel, which was called Carrie  went on to become a best-seller and was made into a successful film of the same name.

Encourage students to record new words in a notebook. They can group words according to the topic or by part of speech. Tell them to write a translation and an example sentence that shows the word in context.
Vocabulary does not just appear on Vocabulary pages. You can ask students to make a list of all the verbs that appear in a Grammar section, or to choose five useful words from a reading or culture text and learn them.

There was once a wolf who used to wander out every night in search of a lamb for his dinner. But recently this wolf has been having difficulty getting enough to eat because the shepherds in the area were particularly vigilant. One day he was coming across a sheep’s fleece which a sheep shearer had been throwing on the floor and forgotten.
It had given the wolf a cunning idea. He decided that later he is going to put on the fleece. Thus disguised he would be able to sneak up on the sheep without the shepherd noticing him. So that evening, just as the sun had been setting he went out in his new disguise. He was strolling confidently into a field where some sheep grazed.

Spirituals are religious folk songs that were created by black slaves in the USA in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The slaves were converted to Christianity, and the songs were an expression of their religious faith and also communicated the hardship and suffering they endured. Black gospel music has its roots in spiritual music, originating in churches in northern cities in the 1920s. It has survived as the most important music in churches with predominantly black congregations.

Most people in the cocoa business used to laugh at the idea that farmers could have their own company. That was before the cocoa farmers' co-operative Kuapa Kokoo -literally ‘best farmer cocoa' - was established in Ghana in 1993.  It is one of the most successful members of the fair trade group, the movement that promotes ethical trading. But the situation hasn't always been like this.

New friends, new experiences and the chance to learn a new language - that's what one young Dutch student from Rotterdam was hoping to find when he set off around Europe to study. He was keen to learn as much as he could. He started at the College de Montaigu at the University of Paris before moving on to the University of Cambridge, where his work was so impressive that his professors even suggested that he should stay and teach. The Dutch student, however, was determined to continue with his journey and left for the University of Turin in Italy. Obviously, he was a student from a wealthy family, you might think. Well, no, the student in question was a poor orphan called Erasmus, travelling between the years of 1495 and 1506.
